Dhol Circle
Dhol circle is a not your typical dhol group - this band creates music using strictly dhols - variations of rhythms, tones and melodies. DC started back in 2003, a group of 5 individuals as a hobby to just meet and drum. It has been only 1 year, the group decided to go public and have now expanded with up to 20 members, and still growing.
DC branches out into 3 categories, ‘open drum circle’, ‘coordinated group performances’, and ‘workshops’.
Every Tuesday in Brampton DC hosts ‘an open dhol circle’: Anyone and everyone is welcome to come join them with their own dhol or percussion instrument. The first hour is facilitated by a directory, the 2nd hour is open to just feed off each other and ‘jam’.
DC’s exposure as a large dhol band led to great demand of performing the dhol at various events.
Within just one year of their expansion to a large coordinated group, DC has performed at many reputable events Such as, opened up for the Just for Laughs Festival, maple leaf sports entertainment sporting events, trinidad/tobago international drum festival and much much more....
Lastly DC offers workshops to communities, and corporations. DC is called upon corporate companies for their events Or school boards, to come on-site and hosts a workshop which gets everyone involved, dancing, drumming, and absorbing the dhol!
