Shiamak Davar is an Indian Contemporary Dance choreographer and is well known for changing the choreography of Hindi cinema and the first Indian to bring Contemporary Jazz and western forms of dances to thousands in India through his school SDIPA, He was also the Director of Choreography for the Commonwealth Games Melbourne, and Commonwealth Games, Delhi (India) in 2010. He choreographed for Mission Impossible 4 with Tom Cruise.
Davar has choreographed several Indian actors and celebrities for film and stage.Like-The Iffa Awards and The Filmfare Awards. Hindi actor Shahid Kapoor was a member of the Shiamak Davar Dance Company, and was trained as a dance instructor by Davar.Upcoming Indian actors Ruslan Mumtaz, Shubh and child actor Darsheel Safary were also a part of the Shiamak Davar Dance Company.
Davar won the 1998 National Film Award for Best Choreography for his work in the film Dil to Pagal Hai as well as the Lycra MTV Style Awards 2007 for 'Most stylish song in a film', for the song 'Dhoom Again' from the Indian film Dhoom 2. Davar is a well known humanitarian and believes that dance can make every one happy and healthy.. His work with underprivileged children and psychically challenged has earned him many national and international awards. Mittul Kadakia is the manager and principle dancer for SDIJ Torontoand will perform with his team on July 9th.
