In 2005, a group of dedicated community members, artists and businessmen came together to nurture an idea for a community organization dedicated to art and the cultural life of the City of Mississauga. Canadian Community Arts Initiative was registered as a non profit organization with a focus on the presentation of high impact arts and cultural events. CCAI presents, produces, co-presents visual arts exhibitions, events, multi media/film events, talks, lectures, workshops and services to artists and local communities.
CCAI has presented thousands of artists in all disciplines of art and culture, starting the South Asian Arts and heritage Festival of Mississauga, Mosaicfest and Rock the Coliseum, Indie music festival in 2006. Later on the film component was added to the festival and in 2012, this emerged as an exciting, independent film festival MISAFF. Mosaic Soundz is the newest project which is in studio live production to enhance the musical culture of Canada.
CCAI is heavily invested in the medium of visual arts and has presented major arts events and exhibitions over the years. "Virsa" the visual arts component of CCAI has presented national, local and international visual artists in exhibitions, artist talks and collaborative presentations. Currently CCAI is developing projects for international collaborations with Canadian artists.
