Chai Town
Chai-Town is an all male South Asian a cappella group based at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Chai-Town specializes in mixing South sian and American songs and are well known for their unique stage presence.
A brotherhood of musicians that entertain their fans as they follow their love of music, Chai-Town is a student-run, non-profit group of 18 members and many alum, each of whom has a passion for music.
From talent competition at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2000, the act ended up being a success and continued it as a student organization. The two, being avid drinkers of tea and being from the suburbs of Chicago, combined the moniker for Chicago, Chi-Town, with chai - the word for tea in Hindi and many South Asian languages - to form the name, Chai-Town.
Over the years, Chai-Town has gathered a respectable repertoire of songs covering a wide range of musical genres. From hit Indian movies to popular English songs also include video selection on YouTube. To represent the diversity within the group, Chai-Town has also covered songs in other Indian languages besides Hindi/Urdu, including Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and mixing Indian songs with English ones.
