Raghav

Canadian-born singer Raghav released his third album, The Phoenix, in April 2012. His first two albums, which were never released in his native Canada, have already been more successful than most musicians could hope for. He sold an impressive 1.3 million copies of his debut album, Storyteller, which led to a MOBO Award, two UK Asian Music Awards, an Urban Music Award, and a sold out world tour. Raghav's sophomore album, Identity, went #1 in both India and the Middle East.

But Raghav's ambitions do not end there. For the past couple of years his sights have been set on Canada and North America, aiming to achieve the same level of recognition at home that he has earned abroad. And he is well on his way - a few years ago the Globe & Mail profiled Raghav as one of "Canada's best kept secrets in the arts", but since his first Canadian release through Victoria label Cordova Bay Records, he's become considerably more conspicuous.

Raised in Calgary, Alberta on a musical diet of Indian classical music, combined with a love of American pop artists like Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, and Marvin Gaye, you would expect Raghav to have a unique musical perspective - and he does. But despite being identified in the past as a South Asian-flavoured R&B/ Pop artist, Raghav sees himself as more of a mainstream artist - a cross between Pop and Motown - who happens to be South Asian.

So for his first North American release, Raghav went to sought-after producer Labrinth (who has several hits in the UK, including the #1 single and biggest UK song of 2013 "Beneath Your Beautiful ft. Emeli Sande) to create So Much. The track features one of Canada's preeminent rappers, Kardinal Offishall, and earned Raghav a JUNO nomination for Soul/R&B Recording of the Year.

His second single, Fire, produced by the legendary Jim Beanz, has reached a new level of success in Canada for Raghav, receiving over 50,000 spins on radio stations across the country and selling over 70,000 copies (Certified Gold). The track spent 32 weeks in the Top 20 at Canadian radio and 21 weeks on the Canadian Singles Top 100 charts. Now picked up by Ultra Records in the US, Fire is spreading throughout the rest of the continent and Europe.

In between Raghav has recorded arguably the biggest Bollywood song of the year with legendary Oscar and Grammy winning producer A R Rahman (Slumdog Millionaire). The song titles "Ishq Shava" has over 10 million hits on youtube and appeared in the Bollywood blockbuster "Jab Tak Hai Jaan".

His current single "Take Me Away" produced by Grammy Award Winning producers Afrojack and DJ Buddha is set to hit airwaves this month in Canada and throughout Europe.
