Canadian Community Arts Initiative and TD Mosaic Festival are pleased to present an impressive retrospective show of paintings by one of the leading south Asian artist, Jimmy Engineer. Born in 1954 in Baluchistan (Loralai), Pakistan, to a Parsi family, he completed his schooling from St. Anthony's High school, Lahore, Forman Christian College, and at the National College of Arts (NCA) where he studied painting.
His artistic ability has been acclaimed internationally particularly his series on canvas depicting the horrors of partition of India and creation of Pakistan. The minute details, the layered imagery and the fine lines illustrate the transition of humans into tragic victims reflecting the pain and suffering of migration on both sides of the border. Jimmy has created a masterful series of paintings where he captures the ancient and historical landmarks of Pakistan, highlighting the need for conservation and preservation of heritage sites and buildings. His works have never failed to captivate successive generations of art lovers in Pakistan and abroad. Leading a simple life Jimmy is a regular presence in Karachi where he spends time painting, visiting art galleries and engaging in social work.
A peace-loving man, he is widely known as Pakistan's indefatigable crusader for the oppressed, disabled, mentally handicapped, impoverished and generally for all who need help. Jimmy's many 'walk-a-cause' have earned him a special standing amongst Pakistan's philanthropists as he has undertaken long, arduous journeys on foot to create awareness for many human rights issues.
Jimmy has mastered many mediums and styles of painting by exploring and introducing numerous textures in his works with versatility. His collection also includes miniatures and self-portraits, many of which are in private collections in all around the world, validating his status as an International artist. Like his art he simply aspires to spread his love for people wherever he goes and is ceaselessly pursuing the course of charity as social activist.
Jimmy has selected some landmark Giclee signed prints for this exhibition that show range of his works over the years and part of sale proceeds will go to his choice of local charity.
Jimmy Engineer will be present at the opening of the show on August 12 at Promenade gallery and will be available to speak to his fans and media till 19th of August, The show will go on till Sept 4, 2013. This show is curated by Ali Adil Khan and Asma Arshad Mahmood.
